Probably because of his position as a priest, Larry was a popular choice for hearing 5th Steps, sometimes hearing two or three a week. After hearing dozens, he began to notice patterns of sharing. He would joke that it was getting so he could hear where someone forgot to add something, and could remind them of it.Eventually, Larry started to create a Fourth Step guide based on all he had heard in the Fifth Steps. He once confided to a friend that he felt the guide was one of the most important contributions he had made to life and sobriety.Larry's initial guide was completed around 1978. He revised it in the late 1980's including areas he had left out of the original guide. Near the end of his life, Larry noted that the guide was out of date and needed a good editor. He intended to update the guide, but passed away before he was able.
